CHATGPT For The Wall Street Journal

I photographed Jake not long after he got out of the hospital. He’d gone down a dark path, fueled by AI rabbit holes that blurred reality and fed his fears. During the session, I wasn’t just thinking about light or angles but I was trying to be present, sensitive to making he felt comfortable being in front of the camera and sharing his story. He was nervous about sharing his story, but showed great strength in working with me. In the end, we spent more time chatting about AI, 3D printers and all things tech, but I wouldn’t have it any other warm. It was one of those assignments where you left feeling like you made a new friend and as a bonus they sent me on the long drive back to Minneapolis with freshly baked cookies and a Diet Coke. Thanks Dawn and Jake!
